Market prices: buckwheat keeps going down, while butter is still going up Ukoopspilka

In the first month of 2012, a decrease in prices for buckwheat at the markets of large Ukrainian cities was reported; the average price for the crop was UAH 11.2/kg, which is UAH 0.14 cheaper compared with December of the previous year. Besides, in January butter prices in food markets of Ukraine went up by the average of 25% to make UAH 57.58. This was concluded by the experts of Ukoopspilka, who have analyzed the pricing dynamics at the markets of the Ukrainian consumer cooperation system for the period from December 25 to January 25.

Ukoopspilka will shoot a patriotic cartoon about domestically manufactured foodstuffs

The contest for a best Caring for Ukrainian! cartoon scenario has been launched. Its main objective is to promote Ukrainian food products. The contest was initiated by Derzhspozhivstandard (the State Inspection of Ukraine for Consumer Rights Protection) and the Central Union of Consumer Societies of Ukraine (UKOOPSPILKA). The best scenario will be used to shoot the cartoon and its author will be awarded UAH 5 000.

Derzhspozhivstandard and Ukoopspilka will inform consumers which products have domestic origin

Derzhspozhivstandard (the State Inspection of Ukraine for Consumer Rights Protection) and Ukoopspilka (consumer cooperation community) have developed special informative labeling for domestic food products. As early as from January 17, Ukrainian stores will offer products labeled with a special emblem and slogan Caring for Ukrainian!. This label would guarantee that the product compiles with all applicable quality standards and was manufactured in Ukraine from domestic raw materials. On the same day, all participating stores will hang special posters with information on the advantages of domestic foodstuffs. Facilitators of the event believe that the idea will be supported by socially committed companies which would inform consumers of origin of their products.

During the New Year holidays Ukrainians demonstrated a tendency to prefer beef over pork and refrained from rice. This was concluded by experts of UKOOPSPILKA as based on the results of domestic foodstuffs market data analysis for December of 2011. From December 26 to December 31, the markets within the Ukoopspilka system demonstrated growing demand not only for traditional products for the New Years meal, including fruit, cucumbers and eggs, but for beef, as well. As the same time, Ukrainians bought less pork and rice.
