Ukrainians will eat 100 kg of cucumbers and tomatoes right at Maidan Ukoopspilka

In order to decide which vegetables are better, domestic or foreign ones, the Central Union of Consumer Societies of Ukraine (Ukoopspilka) will propose the audience to taste cucumbers and tomatoes from different countries and choose the best ones. Over 100 kg of the vegetables have been imported from different parts of the world specifically for the occasion. The event itself will take place within the framework of the festivities to be held on Sunday, July 22 on Khreshchatyk, the central street of Kyiv.

Ukoopspilka, the initiator of the nationwide patriotic campaign Caring for Ukrainian!, which envisages labeling of domestic food stuffs as compliant with the highest quality standards, decided to carry out this interesting investigation during the festivities devoted to announcement of the 2012 the International Year of Cooperatives. The goal of the investigation is to establish whether Ukrainians can tell locally grown vegetables from foreign ones.

As representatives of the system which comprises over 360 enterprises throughout the country, we believe that Ukrainian products can equally compete with similar products from foreign suppliers, said Deputy Director of the Corporate Communications Department of Ukoopspilka Denys Gorokhovskyi. And who knows better, if not the consumer? So, we decided to find out which cucumbers and tomatoes are really the best from the residents and visitors of the capital.

The taste sampling will take place on July 22 from 4 p.m. till 9 p.m., in the heart of Kyiv, in front of the Ukoopspilka building (7/11, Khreshchatyk St., subway station Maidan Nezalezhnosti). The event will also feature a series of contests, whose participants and winners will be awarded souvenirs and prizes from Ukoopspilka. Besides, during the evening the audience will be entertained by various performers, including both young artists and prize winners of various competitions and festivals, and the show will be hosted by a popular radio DJ Olexandr Rasskazov.

The Central Union of Consumer Societies of Ukraine (Ukoopspilka) joins over 500 thousand cooperators throughout the country. Consumer cooperation system of Ukraine comprises more than 10 thousand stores, 423 markets (i.e. every sixth market of Ukraine) and over 360 production enterprises. Ukoopspilka is also one of the ten largest tax payers of Ukraine.
